Who Really helps in sustaining Biodiversity?

Human kind has left their mark on the natural web of the environment. With the expansion of human cities and roads, many of the habitats and ecosystems for species have been irreparably altered or destroyed. As humans continue to change the ecosystem, the usage of ecosystems will lead to the displacement and extinction of many species. If left unchecked, all species on earth will cease to exist, including human kind.

Of course that’s a worst case scenario.

However there are many groups saving the biodiversity all over the world. Several of these groups protest the growing destruction of biodiversity in the world and they set up different smaller organizations to help sustain the biodiversity in their area. One certain organization that helps to maintain the biodiversity in the world is Flora & Fauna International (FFI).

FFI was established over a century ago and they are instrumental in preserving the biodiversity all over the world including Africa, the Americas, Australia, Asia-Pacific, and Eurasia. Rather than impose their own will over an ecosystem, FFI collaborates with local groups in the area of work. They have a program where they empower people to take charge of their environmental areas. They also take a direct approach to dealing with endangered species and plants by mobilizing services to protect the biodiversity in a specific ecosystem.

The FFI also helped to start up similar organizations. The FFI aided in establishing the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the ICUN- the World Conservation Union, both groups also help to maintain ecosystems and save biodiversity all over the world. They have continued to aid the WWF, ICUN, and other similar organizations in their own personal projects to aid wildlife.

(The World Wildlife Fund is one of the many ecological conservation groups that FFI has helped to establish)

I believe that the FFI is more of a passive organization that prefers to help with existing projects rather than begin their own projects. Based on their past endeavors they only handle one to two singular projects every ten years. While they still have their own projects they only have a single project at a time (see below). They prefer fund and aid preexisting projects around the world. In my opinion, the FFI compliments other wildlife conservation programs.

(The FFI's mountain Gorilla project in the 1970's was one of the many projects that FFI has accomplished over their history, they helped save this species there are currently over 700 mountain Gorillas in the world)

Many people can aid FFI in their endeavors. You can help by signing up to join in one of their ongoing projects or you can donate to their cause in their website. Contrary to popular belief, humans ARE doing plenty of things to maintain the biodiversity all over the world; humankind must work in collaboration with biodiversity, just like FFI to ensure that all species on earth are not lost.
